Types of Braces

At Columbia Orthodontics, we understand that every smile is different, and we do our best to provide a variety of treatment options to fit the needs of each and every smile. Dr. West works with our patients to create an effective, customized treatment plan for them. From metal braces to virtually invisible clear aligners, we use the latest in orthodontic technology for orthodontic treatments.

Damon® Braces

Damon braces are metal braces with “self-litigating” brackets. Self-litigating brackets allow the braces to slide along the wire more easily. This means that instead of having to tighten or readjust braces on a regular basis, you can rely on your Damon braces and brackets to move naturally with the teeth as they realign. Damon braces generally require less treatment time than treatment with traditional, metal braces.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are similar to your typical, metal braces, except they consist of tooth-colored, clear brackets that blend in with your teeth. Many adults opt for ceramic braces for their cosmetic appeal.

Invisalign®

The Invisalign system takes a very modern approach to realigning your teeth, using a customized series of clear, removable aligners. These are aligners are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic. No wires or brackets are involved in Invisalign aligners. Invisalign is one of the most discreet methods of straightening teeth.

Herbst Appliance

The Herbst appliance is effective in correcting overbites that are a result of small, lower jaws that are positioned too far back. Generally, this condition is found in children with developing jawbones. While we encourage patients with this condition to wait for the lower jaw to catch up in growth, the Herbst appliance can guide the lower jaw into proper development.
